WOMEN OF THE WOODS
We invite you to join us for this exciting new weekend retreat! From camping basics and orienteering to firearms and leathercraft, we look forward to spending this weekend outdoors. Come and enjoy a weekend away learning new skills, eating great food, and breathing in God's beautiful creation.
While our title may imply roughing it, rest assured that we'll be taking advantage of UPBC's retreat center facility which offers very comfortable accommodations.
Our directors are Tracy Major and Kathy Johnson.

Born and raised in Iron Mountain, MI, Laura spent most weekends exploring the woods around her parents camp near Sagola, MI. She became a Christian while singing in an Ecumenical Choir in High School. Upon graduating from Iron Mountain High School in 1976 she attended Michigan Technological University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Plant Ecology. After marrying Matthew Songer in 1980 they moved to Rockford, IL then Chicago,IL where she worked at a commercial greenhouse, as a billing secretary and then as an animal/human virology tech. They moved to Marquette in January 1989 where Laura worked as a medical illustrator and a Mom. She has 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Her Illustration work has been published in several medical journals, publications and a text book. Currently she is working as a fine artist in acrylic painting, is an avid gardener, forest manager of over 400 private acres, huntress, cross country skier, and trail runner. As a Christian she is passionate about the great commission and promoting and teaching bible studies for women.
