DESIGNS IN THE PINES
This retreat is open to ALL TYPES OF CRAFTERS and is designed by YOU! Bring a project and work on it the whole time, or take advantage of our workshops and learn something new.
Join us at U.P. Bible Camp's Retreat & Conference Center in Little Lake, MI. We'll begin with snacks on Thursday evening, Sept. 12 and conclude after breakfast on Sunday, Sept. 15. Registration will be open from 3:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday (dinner that night is on your own). For those that are unable to attend for the entire weekend, day rates are also available.
Bedding, towels, and pillows are provided. We guarantee a comfy, cozy stay for you and your friends. You can also be assured that we will keep you well fed!

Quick Craft Table – Zentangle Star or Twig Star
Friday: Archery (Note: Camp will provide the bows/arrows but you are welcome to bring your own if desired)
Saturday: Pontoon Boat Ride
You're certainly welcome to spend the entire weekend working on your own project. For those looking for variety or to learn something new, however, we offer workshops free of charge.
When you register, please indicate which workshop(s) you will be attending, as each one has a limited number of seats available.
AM Day 1 (Friday): Hot Plate Pottery
PM Day 1 (Friday): Wood Pumpkin
AM Day 2 (Saturday): Zippered Pouch (Sewing)
PM Day 2 (Saturday): Birch Bark Earrings/Necklace
Hot Plate Pottery (Friday Morning)
Instructor: Hot Plate Pottery Staff
Class Description: Crafters will choose between an instructor lead project or are free to paint a vase or bowl of their choosing. Please select which project you wish to participate in (Northern Lights, Vase, or Bowl) to ensure the staff brings adequate quantities of pottery.
Option 1 – Northern Lights Plate, instructor lead
Participants will learn how to create the Northern Lights technique on a small rectangle plate/tray
Option 2 – Painters Choice, self-lead
Participants will choose one of the items listed below to paint as they wish.
Item A: 4”x4” Square Vase (also makes a great pencil/utensil cup!)
Item B: Cereal sized bowl
Supplies Needed: Supplies will be provided for the craft but it is suggested you bring a paint shirt.
Note: Fired pottery items will be returned Sunday morning prior to departure.
Wood Pumpkin (Friday Afternoon)
Instructors: Herold Peper, Brandon Krenz, Dave Locknane and Jeremy Wright
Class Description: Participants will learn how to use basic power tools (Jig Saw, Miter or Table saw, Power Sander & Router) to make a wooden pumpkin from reclaimed pallet boards. Participants will have a completed pumpkin to take home and decorate as they wish. A variety of decorating ideas will be presented at class.
Supplies Needed: All supplies will be provided; however, it is recommended that participants wear closed toe shoes and may wish to wear work clothes.
Note: Maximum number pf participants = 15
Open Wide Zippered Pouch (Saturday Morning)
Instructor: Dee Mattson
Class Description: Learn how to make a zippered pouch in this beginner sewing class. Participants will learn how to put in a zipper and box corners. Makes a great makeup/toiletry bag!
Supplies Needed: A supply list will be provided to those who sign up, via e-mail.
Birch Bark Earrings/Necklace (Saturday Afternoon)
Instructor: Ruthann Van Ryn
Class Description: Participants will make a set of earrings with a matching necklace using Michigan Upper Peninsula birch bark. Wire posts and clip-on earring options available.
