DESCRIPTION:

The W.O.L.F. Trails program is a unique and challenging opportunity for young men between the ages of 13 and 15 to embark on an adventure of a lifetime. Unlike UPBC’s other summer offerings, W.O.L.F. Trails does not take place on one of our campuses. Rather, it is a 50+ mile hiking adventure on the island of Isle Royale. Isle Royale is a beautiful, remote and rugged island in Lake Superior and presents us with the opportunity to challenge young men physically, mentally, and spiritually. This trip will offer a unique opportunity to discuss Biblical manhood and a “calling out” into a new stage of responsibility, spiritual maturity, character, and integrity all the while enjoying the beauty of God’s creation.

CAUTION:

While we do not want to discourage anyone from signing up for W.O.L.F. Trails, for safety reasons we need to caution potential participants and be very clear on what that trip entails to ensure a safe and great experience for leaders and participants. Due to the challenging and remote nature of this trip, each camper who signs up should be ready and capable of showing persistence, determination, and teamwork. By no means is the W.O.L.F. Trails camper required to be an athlete or be an expert hiker. However, they should be physically able to complete the whole trip because Isle Royale is a very rugged, wilderness island that is extremely remote and has no simple “off-ramp”. Returning to the mainland is only an option for medical emergencies.

Therefore, the W.O.L.F. Trails program seeks young men that have:

  • An interest in experiencing God’s wilderness creation

  • An desire to grow deeper in their faith in Jesus Christ

  • A desire to pursue biblical manhood

  • A great attitude towards authority and teamwork

  • The willingness and ability to push themselves to new limits both physically and mentally

MEDICAL NOTE:

We also want to stress that when on the Island, it will be difficult to manage complicated medical conditions. While we do have certified Wilderness First Responders leading the trip, we still highly caution sending young men with complicated medical issues with the potential of escalating into emergencies. Evacuation to the nearest medical facility may take 6 to 7 hours, even under the most ideal circumstances and timing. Therefore we strongly recommend that young men with such medical concerns do not sign up for W.O.L.F. Trails.
